Global Studies Program Diploma

Four of the five first recipients of Archmere's new Global Studies Diploma sat for their oral interviews on Tuesday, May 21. After students read an essay articulating how their experiences influenced their global mindset, they then took questions from a panel of Global Studies Committee members based on the four categories (Speak, Study, Act, and Travel) that capture the diploma's vision. Congratulations to Connor Victoria, Gabrielle Fernandez, Alex Bogey, and Rheanna Asiyo! Camilo Alvarez will sit for his interview in time to receive his diploma at Baccalaureate with the others.

Mattisyn Nather Recipient of DAIS Scholarship

Archmere senior Mattisyn Nather has been named one of four recipients of a scholarship from DAIS, the Delaware Association of Independent Schools. The application process included submitting a student transcript, recommendation letter from a faculty member, and three short essays. The committee was impressed by Mattisyn's essays, which spoke about her dedication to her faith and the many ways she is involved in her church, her love of family, and her ambition to study computer science in college. Mattisyn will head to Emory Riddle Aeronautical University this fall to study Computer Engineering.

Helena Raskob Arts Institute Hosts End of Year Recitals

At the end of May, the Helena Raskob Arts Institute hosted two special classical music recitals in the Patio Courtyard for seniors Alicia Chu, mezzo soprano, and Grace Chen, pianist. Both musicians have participated in the Institute recitals, performance programs, and special events for the past four years. Alicia's recital featured arias and art songs in six languages. A beautifully sung aria from the Bach Magnificat featured accompaniment by the HRAI String Ensemble. Piano accompaniment was provided on the superb Raskob Mason & Hamlin piano by HRAI piano teacher, Christine McCloskey. Alicia ended her program with a touching Chinese folk song that paid special tribute to her mother.

Grace performed works by Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, and others, including the Brun Romance for Flute and Piano with her younger brother, Corey. Grace's technical prowess clearly amazed the audience. She concluded her recital with the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2 in C minor, which was accompanied by her piano teacher, Jennifer Chen. Both Alicia and Grace, friends since early childhood, expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded by the HRAI programs. The Archmere community was clearly delighted to help celebrate their truly outstanding accomplishments in music.
